Specialized IT Service Delivery
Through close collaboration with the business, I proposed the development of an integrated IT-business service unit that could deliver highly customized technology services to all business projects, independent of size. In a fully cost-recovered environment, this new and different service had to be seen at minimum as a cost neutral, if not cost saving, service. Following the successful proof-of-concept, this new service was expanded to become a permanent part of the IM/IT portfolio.
Creative Solution to a Complex Information Management Problem
On behalf of my client, I negotiated a solution to the segregation and security of sensitive electronic information from the rest of the enterprise. Key to this solution was supportability, availability in a highly distributed, low user density (1400 users in 100 sites), environment, and cost containment. This negotiation involved full analysis of all IT services, differentiation between services that required access to, or control of, data and those that required little or no data. Simultaneously, rigorous logging and tracking were required for audit and accountability. Many aspects of the negotiation were similar to creating a separate and distinct, highly regulated, brand of a parent organization.
IT Procurement Consolidation
Through the consolidation of IT procurement in a highly distributed operating environment, including multiple lines of business, I reduced overall annual IT procurement expenses by 30%. Success in this consolidation effort required extensive client consultation and the development of an efficient and effective workflow. The workflow included quality assurance, financial reporting, and requirements analysis. There was a reduction in procurement complexity, increase in business compliance with IT architecture standards, and significantly improved business-IT engagement.
IM/IT Organizational Capability Maturity
My client had decided to consolidate several management areas into a new directorate, including IT Service Delivery, Application Development, Library Services, Central Registry, Mail & Courier, and other related functions. I was engaged to build this new organization, integrating existing components, and aligning resources with business requirements. Through effective communication and leadership, I aligned existing services, developed cohesive cross-functional teams, improved existing services, and delivered new services which were enabled by creating a new shared vision.
